Nordic Walking @ Rise Healthcare

Rise Health is a multi-practitioner, rehabilitation & healthcare clinic in the Fernwood neighbourhood of Victoria, B.C.

Turn a walk into a workout

Nordic Walking can be as cardiovascular as running, but feels easier on the body because the poles provide propulsion - making you lighter on your feet. It tones the whole body, improves posture, increases coordination & can incorporate many different fitness challenges.

Reduces pressure on joints & takes the weight demand off the lower body

Because Nordic walking poles help to distribute weight-bearing, we can suddenly feel as though our arms are working like an extra pair of legs! People find they can walk further than usual, whilst reducing the impact and demand on knees, hips and ankles. Since the arms are engaged in propelling the body, our abdominals also become part of the chain of action - meaning that Nordic Walking often reduces the strain many people feel in their back, neck and shoulders from regular walking.

Great for mental health: boosting your energy as well as your mood

A moving body is an energized & “happier” body: our breathing, our ability to focus, our capacity to socialize, and our sleep can all be improved through exercise. Movement increases circulation & blood flow throughout the body - helping our digestive tract to work better, increasing positive endorphins in our system, as well as bringing us out of “mind loops” that can have a negative effect.
